It depends on you. All I  can do is to show you all the pros and cons of having it. But you need your own opinion on whether your hair, beauty or cosmetic salon needs software.
There are some stumbling blocks at first.
Of course, this all depends of whether you feel confident in using computers. You don’t have to be a whizz kid with computers, but should not be afraid of using them.
It is time-consuming at first. You’ll have to learn your new software. You’ll also need to set it up to work for your salon. It means you’ll spend some time entering date such as services, prices, list of employees, working hours etc. Usually it can be done in one day, but perhaps it won’t be enough.
The first steps are always the most difficult. Every time you do something new it’s not easy. At the moment your comb and scissors are the tool of you trade, but do you remember the very beginning? Was it so easy then? I believe the first time you’ll note down a new customer appointment  it will be tricky. But after some time (let’s say after the 10th-appointment) you’ll consider your computer as an extra tool of your trade.
At the beginning there will be teething problems but after a short period you’ll never look back.
What do you get in return?

If I had to use only one word I would say MARKETING. Saying so I mean it will enhance your salon in these ways
Gaining a clearer picture of your customer database. With paper calendars you’ve got all you need to know about your customers. The problems is that you barely use it. Why?  Because it’s uncomfortable. You know who your customers are, what services they pay for, how much they pay, how often then use it….Yet but do you really know all this?  As if you went through your paper calendar in detail, you would be able to get all this information. But it would be a rather time-consuming task. By having a computer program you have all this information at the click of the mouse. You’ll be able to better understand your customers preferences. This will allow to improve your business.
Increasing the salon’s number of customers. Hair salon software will help you reach proper target group with your marketing message. For example:
  • You may send special promotional messages (SMS or email) to customers who did not use your services for more then 2 months. It is easier to get back an old customer than earn a new one. And far less costly.
  • You may take care of your best clients and propose to them some kind of bonus (like free therapy or hair care products ). Retaining the loyalty of your best clients is priceless.

Improving your image and prestige. Your customers will receive text reminders of appointments. They will be able to book appointments online (even if you don’t have your own website). Are your competitors so modern? Probably today only a few. But today’s world is changing so fast that what seems modern today, will be the standard of tomorrow. A standard that you could not afford to ignore.

I’m definitely sure that beauty salons or hair salons need computer software as the human body needs air to breathe. Are you so sure you can do without it ?
